Unusual Fruits Seed Collection

Experimenting with unusual crops is a great way to keep children excited about growing from seed. The Unusual Fruit seed collection created by Piccolo contains three seed packets to help children grow their own fruits. The seed packets also include growing tips and recipes. 

The Piccolo Unusual Fruit seed collection comprises three seed packets: 

• Alpine Strawberry Baron von Solemacher - The Baron von Solemacher alpine strawberry is an old German variety which produces small red juicy berries up to 25mm in diameter. The plants are hardy perennials and will flower and fruit from late spring until the first frost.  
• Petit Gris de Rennes Cantaloupe Melon - This easy to grow heirloom variety of melon is a great choice for our 'not so hot' British summers as it fruits earlier leaving longer to ripe. It is also perfect for small gardens and containers as the vine grows to only 90 cm. The little melons are super sweet and juicy.
• Cape Gooseberry Golden Berry - The Cape Gooseberry is a distant relative of tomatoes and produces lovely yellow-orange fruits wrapped inside a 'lantern'. The fruits are sweet with a sour tone reminiscent of cranberries. The plants are very easy to grow and require very little maintenance or feed.

The seeds are of certified standard, non-GMO and non-hybrid. The latter is particularly important to us as we believe that it is good for children to witness the whole seed-to-seed cycle and learn to grow from seeds that they have picked from the plants they originally grew (when possible!).

The packaging of the seeds is also very eco-conscious with heat-sealed paper envelopes and contains a description of the plant and how to grow it best.

Please note that these seeds have been designed for adults and children alike and so not all the 'advice/suggestions for use' on the packaging is relevant for children.
